Parklet Pilot
The Parklet Pilot project was a big success and will act as a blueprint for future builds around Omaha. Sarah Johnson and her team of volunteers completed the parklet before Native Omaha Days 2021, stayed under budget, and invited multiple community partners to collaborate — Mode Shift Omaha, RDG Planning & Design Small Joy, Heartland B-cycle, Drips Botanical Elements and many local artists and artisans who helped with construction.
The goal was to calm street vehicular traffic, provide a safe and comfortable gathering spot, and make the community think differently about parking spots. Each of these goals were met and the project will now live on behind the building that it originally sat in front of.

Sarah Johnson is from Omaha, currently lives in Benson, and loves working with the community to push for progress.
She's a founding member and the Volunteer & Membership Coordinator for Mode Shift Omaha, a community non-profit working to improve transportation and mobility equity for residents across the city.
Sarah also co-hosts a podcast called Car Free Midwest and just launched another project, Council Club, which aims to make local politics more approachable.
